HI shanna, still here! This forum is pretty slow, but hopefully that changes!
How are you? How did you find us?

Hi Anthony . I found you looking for a Biblical alternative to AA. I knew Celebrate Recovery would not be it, as it was a 12 step program. I wanted support that acknowledged that at the heart of alcoholism is sin and addressing that is the only way to be free.

Well, I think this can be a valuable resource to you! There are a lot of articles on Chad's church website to read through. I could even recommend a couple of good books as well and other resources.
What's your background/history with alcohol and drugs? Are you involved in a local church?

Hi Shanna and Anthony,
Over the last month especially, we have been receiving emails and inquiries from people looking for help and support via Recovery Reformation. So, I plan on really getting things moving here again. We will also be re-launching the podcasts on a really dynamic new platform.
Shanna, if we started a once a week online fellowship and support meeting - is that something you would be interested in?

Chad,
Yes I would like something once a week. I do have some time limitations, but I would like to try and make it work. Fridays would be a great day for me.

Sounds good Shanna, would Wednesday evenings work at all for you? I will also ask some of the others if Friday is good for them. We'll get it sorted out.

I may be able to do Wednesday evenings. Right now I am not committed except that I work until 6:30 PST, but my schedule is changing in the next few weeks and I will be getting off at 4. How long do you think the meetings/services will last?

I need prayer please. I made a bad decision last night and I am tired of that. I am looking into finding a counselor based on the information that Anthony sent to me. Feeling pretty hopeless right now.

I did not make it to church. My husband and I have been watching a study on Sunday mornings.
Thank you for the prayer!

Shanna, I think finding a church home is one of the biggest things that will help you in your walk with Christ. Hopefully you can find something soon. We all need accountability under biblical elders and pastors as well as those in the congregation to come along side us in the day to day struggles. I would even say that visiting churches until you find one to join, as opposed to doing a home study on Sundays, will help you maintain self-discipline by submitting to God and worshiping with other believers. I looked up some counselors on the ACBC website, looks like there is one north of you in the Pismo Beach area and another south of you in Mussel Shoals. Not sure what the exact distances they are from you or driving times, those were just the closest two to your area. Also I noticed on the ACBC website, that their counselors are allowed to charge a reasonable fee, but that doesn't necessarily mean they all will. There's always the possibility you could work something out with them if that is the case. Maybe they would even meet you half way on the location to cut down driving time. I hope you can find someone in your area to help you. We are also here to help you as well, but having local discipleship I think is crucial

Anthony, I connected with one in Grover Beach this morning. I emailed her and will set up sessions with her since she is the only female within a reasonable distance. I do agree with you about finding a church. We are called to be in the fellowship of believers, something I had forgotten until you pointed it out. We aren't in fellowship with any other believers, so church would be where we need to be. My sister called me today because I asked her for prayer. She is also an alcoholic and involved in AA. I told her about this site and hope she checks it out .

That's great news, hopefully it works out for you!
How are you holding up this week? You mentioned earlier you made a bad decision Sunday, what exactly does that mean?

Good morning Anthony! I am doing pretty well the last couple of days. I've been in the Word and listening to worship music. I've also been doing things to take my eyes off myself, like reaching out to other people that seem to be having a hard time and letting them know I am thinking about them and praying for them. As we all know, sin is very selfish and self focused. It also helps me to not think about alcohol. Keeping from drinking puts alcohol on my mind all the time, making me think about drinking all the time. Being in the Word and prayer has helped that. I drank a lot on Sunday. I made green chili and it's an all day process that I love to do. In the past I always drink while I am cooking, so I did the same this Sunday. I didn't do anything bad as far as behavior due to the drinking, I just drank too much and that ruined my sleep, which affected my work day on Monday. It also is accompanied with a lot of guilt and feelings of failure. I am currently starting a new business within my current job and I cannot afford to be distracted or not present. How are you doing? Also, I have heard back from the counselor I was in contact with and it sounds like she isn't thrilled about doing less than once a week sessions to start out with. Once a week is something I am not able to afford. She is the only female within a driving distance of me through the Biblical counseling site. Can you pray that the Lord opens doors to the right person, or provides the $ needed to go once per week? I have to do it, I cannot fall back into my old ways.
