I just discovered this video today. This is Jeff Durbin speaking about his own personal path out of substance abuse. It seems that he is driving the point that an addiction problem is basically a worship problem. I began thinking about idolatry. The video is approx 55 minutes long. What do you think? Good? Wrong? Let's talk. www.youtube.com/watch?v=06xF7MG6uz8

That was a really good video. He was exactly right on a lot of points, and it's encouraging to know others are recognizing the folly of AA and giving people the gospel.

First of all I want to say I am a believer in Jesus Christ as my lord and savior, I am also a member of AA and have been sober for over six years. Not once have I ever had anyone tell me that AA was a religious organization, nor has anyone tried to give me the gospel, as you say. AA is meant to help people get sober and nothing else. I am great full that I didn't meet you guys before I got sober!

Hi Rick. Apologies for such a delayed response, this forum is slower than most.
During my 6+ years in AA, I never had anyone describe it to me as a religious organization either. It was always termed as a "spiritual program". Regardless of how you phrase it, the fact remains that it teaches with authority on things such as how to have a relationship with God, how to have your sins taken away (see steps 4-7 in the big book), the purpose of life, etc. These are things that God's Word alone should be the authority on, and in many places contracts God's Word. I would encourage you to search this site a little further for some examples.
Could you elaborate a little further as to why you feel grateful you didn't meet us before you got sober?
